Saturday: Canandaigua Won - Penfield Lost
May 15, 2004 - This was the last chance for regular season games in Section Five. Eleven games were scheduled under the cold and rain of upstate New York. Canandaigua won big at home and maintained their undefeated season. Penfield lost to host Pittsford and dropped to 15-1.
It was a 6-6 tie at halftime but it was Pittsford's game in the second half as they scored 4 and held the previously undefeated Penfield Patriots to a single goal to win, at Pittsford, 10-7. Senior middie, RJ Lamontagne led the Panthers with 3g-2a and junior attackman, Jake Boyce addled 2g-1a. Senior attackman, David Wallace scored 3g and junior midfielder, Dylan Bittlingmaier scored 2g while Justin Rand added 2a. Junior goalie, Steve Mathews recorded 11saves for the Panthers (9-6).
'It's a tough thing when you're playing a team that's 15-0 in their last game before finishing a perfect season," Pittsford Head Coach Carmine Peluso told the Democrat and Chronicle. "But our guys responded well and they did what they had to do."
Penfield saw 3g from junior middie, Mike Thon.
Honeoye Falls-Lima (12-3) finished their first Varsity season with a 17-1 victory over host Odyssey as 14 different Cougars made the scorebook, led by Jeff Price with 5g-3a and Mike Cintineo 3g-1a. Erich Dehm, Dusty Mulcahey and Kevin Marfioti each recorded 2a while nine players each scored one goal: Jake Vogt (1g-2a), Eric Holton, Kyle Beck (1g-1a), Dan Layfield, Zane Witzel, John Cintineo, Chris Stanton, Kevin Garvey and Rocky Pugliese.
Odyssey junior goalie Curtis Boshnack only played for half a game but made 6 saves and brought his save total to 266 for the season. Senior middie, Rob Weilert had the only goal for the Leopards (0-16).
Irondequoit hosted a win over Hilton, 17-2 as Al Gianforti, Derek Pino and Sean Doyle each scored 3g. The Eagles end up (11-4).
Ryan Eastman (1g-1a) and Mitch Ritchie scored for Hilton (3-13). [No report from Irondequoit.]
Brighton finished their regular season with a home win over Eastridge, 15-3. Junior middie, Mike Ryerson led the Baron effort with 5g-3a while junior attackman, James Ryan and senior middie, Spencer Durland each added 3g-3a. Senior attackman, Zach Davis finished with 2 goals for Brighton (9-7).
Senior middie, Dan Driffoll had all three goals for the Lancers (2-14). [No report from Eastridge.]
Geneva was the winner as they defeated the Livonia Bulldogs who were playing their third game in three days, by a score of 18-7.
"The kids gave everything they had the last three days, we just had no gas left in the tank," said Livonia Coach, John Sciera.
Geneva, who took an early 6-0 lead, saw scoring from ten different players, led by Matt Warner (3g-3a), Luke Bonney (1g-5a), Greg Bonney (3g-2a) and Dan Rago (4g). Adding to the score for the Panthers were, Craig McDonald (1g-2a), Andrew Shamy (2a) and Matt Morabito (1a). Scoring 2g each were Mark Boom, Jake Queener and Chris Toner. Juniors, Nick Shaman (9s) and Matt Hannan (4s) combined for 13 saves for the Panthers (7-9).
Livonia' s scoring came from Tom Every (3g-1a), Ryan Rossborough (1g-3a) and Pat Wahl (1g-1a) while Josh Hendrickson and Scott Mosher each added 1g for the Bulldogs.
The Livonia special teams played especially well on this day with the extra man unit of Hendrickson, Wahl, Aaron Young, Rossborough, Mosher, Chadd Britton, and Every scoring 5 of their team's 7 goals in man up. The man down team of Shawn Wright, Shane Moran, Andy Kurtz, Scott Mosher, Sam Pecorella, Ray Miles and Kevin Thomas also played well on the day. Livonia goalies, Jake Auburn and Aaron Jamison combined for 14 saves for the Bulldogs (9-8).
Victor was the winner, 12-8 over Newark as Chris Potter (5g,2a), Ben Cerza (3g,2a), Kyle Rogemoser (2g), Mike Burns (2g), Kyle Sullivan (2a) and Cory Benulis (1a) made the scorebook for the Blue Devils (9-7).
Newark was led by Mike Wilkes (3g-1a), Nate Colon (2g-1a) and Jason Johnson (2g) while Dan Renner added 2a and Rob Dash added 1a. Newark finishes (4-11). [No report from Newark.]
Waterloo lost to a strong Whitney Point (Section 4) team, 7-10 as the winners outscored Waterloo, 9-4 in the last three quarters of the game. Chris Hand led the victory with 4g-2a for Whitney Point.
Waterloo's David Osborne scored 3g, TJ Radka scored 2g and Mike Strohm added 4a for Waterloo (12-4). Goalie Pat DeBolt recorded 19 saves. [Score only from Waterloo.]
Canandaigua scored the first 12 goals on their way to a 15-2 victory over Finger Lakes rival, Penn Yan, to remain the only undefeated team in Section Five 
at 16-0. The Braves used a tight man-to-man defense with strong shutoffs to keep the Mustangs away from the net while racking up numerous one-on-one goals in the "cozy" confines of Evans Field.
After finishing the first quarter, 3-0 the Braves ended the half, 8-0. Scoring for Canandaigua were Mike Pane (4g-1a), Chris Mulheron (3g-2a) and Aaron Manzer (3g-1a). Dan Groot and Bob Bush each scored 2g while Nick Boylan (1g), Tyler Emery (1a) and Steve Smith (1a) added to the victory.
Dan Mesler and John Van Houten each scored one goal for Penn Yan (11-5)
Fairport and Schroeder played two overtime periods to determine the Raiders as the winner, 11-10, when Nik Bryan scored at the 2:06 mark. Fairport, down 5-0 at the start, rallied behind the efforts of Bryan (4g), Ryan Lowe (2g-1a) and Pat Reilly (1g-3a). Tom Rynn, Pete Gibbons and Pat Van Hall each added 1g-1a for the Raiders. Bryan Sanna also added one goal for Fairport (9-7).
Mike Catalino scored 3g-2a for the Warriors (8-8). [No report from Schroeder.]
