Tuesday: Irondequoit in 3 OTs

May 4, 2004 - It was an another well played and exciting high school lacrosse game; this time at Pittsford, as Irondequoit scored with winner in the third overtime period to beat the Panthers 10-9.
 
 Junior midfielder, Corey Bottiglier scored the game winner at the 1:28 mark in the third overtime period as Irondequoit was the victor over Pittsford, 10-9.
 
The game started with a strong three goal run by the Panthers as senior attackman, Dave Wallace scored (unassisted) at 10:46, followed by two goals by senior middie, Pat Kendricks at 8:56 (assisted by RJ Lamontagne) and at 5:42 (unassisted). The Eagles came back with unassisted goals by Aaron Bottazzo at 3:20 and senior middie, Craig Lepiane at 0:53. Pittsford's senior goalie, Ed Witter, hit when he left the crease to chase a ground ball, as injured and left the game at that point, replaced by junior, Steve Mathews. The quarter ended with the Panthers up 3-2.
 
The second quarter saw each team working for ball time and the defensive units controlling the shooters. Pittsford scored first as junior middie, Dylan Bittlingmaier scored at 5:51 on a feed from Lamontagne. The Eagle scored next at 2:46 as senior attackman, Jon Timkey hit the net on a feed from Jacob Schindler. Pittsford came back on the next face-off and Bittlingmaier scored again (unassisted). The Eagles returned 29 seconds later with a goal by Bottiglier assisted by Timkey and the half-time came with Pittsford up 5-4.
 
After the break, the Eagles scored two goals to take their first lead of the game as junior Zack Pixley scored on a feed from Schindler and sophomore, Derek Pino picked up a loose ball on the crease to score (unassisted) at 5:14. The Panthers came back again with two goals about 30 seconds apart as junior attackman, Justin Rand scored on an assist by Jake Boyce and Kendricks scored again (unassisted). Bottiglier scored the last goal of the quarter at 1:13 and the score was tied at seven.
 
The 4th quarter was much like the rest of the game. The Eagles scored first as senior middie, Sean Doyle scored at 7:42 but Pittsford returned at 7:03 with a goal by Kendricks. Doyle scored again at 4:45 with an assist by Pixley and Lamontagne send the game into overtime with his unassisted goal at 2:42.
 
The teams remained scoreless through two and a half overtime periods until Bottiglier scored his unassisted goal at the 1:28 mark to end the game. The Eagles move to 7-3 and the Panthers drop to 5-4.
 
 Webster Thomas traveled to Greece for the win over Odyssey, 17-4. Scoring for Thomas were senior middie, Steve Hutton, sophomore attackman, Kevin Kemp (4g) and senior attackman, John Schumacher who each scored 5g. Thomas moves to 8-4 while Odyssey is 0-11. [ No report from Odyssey.]
 
 It was Victor over Newark, 14-5 as the Blue Devil man up unit was 5/8 for the day. Scoring for Victor were junior attackman, Cory Benulis(5g-1a), senior attackman, Chris Potter(4g-1a) and senior middie, Ben Cerza(3g-1a). Mike Burns(1g-3a), Kyle Rogemoser(3a) and Kyle Sullivan(1g-1a) added to the Victor score.
 
Both junior attackman, Jason Johnson and senior midfielder, Mychael Wilkes scored two goals for Newark. Nate Colon (1g-1a), Kyle Burm(1g), Hector Alejandro(1g) finished the scoring for Newark.
 
Sophomore defenseman, Pat Sullivan had a strong performance and senior goalie made 17 saves for Victor (6-5). Senior goalie, Matt Herhart recorded 8 saves for Newark (3-7). [ No report from Newark.]
 
 Honeoye Falls-Lima beat Eastridge, 15-4, boosting their team record to 8-3. Leading the way for the Cougars were junior attackman, Mike Cintineo (7g-2a), junior attackman, Jeff Price (3g-3a) and junior middie, David Uzialko (2g-1a). Three HFL players each scored one goal including, John Cintineo (1a),
 
Dan Layfield (1a) and Eric Holton (1a) while Zane Witzel and Jake Vogteach added an assist for the Cougars.
 
Junior middie, Kevin Kimber (1g-1a) led the scoring for Eastridge while Mike Passantino, Brian Sutton and Shaun Kreckereach added one goal for the Lancers (1-10). [ No report from Eastridge.]
 
 In GRALL action, it was Aquinas over McQuaid Jesuit at St. John Fisher College, 9-7. Mark Pincelli led the Little Irish with 3g along with David Schmandt (2g-2a) and Connor Burgasser (2g). Pat King and Pat Eyre each added a goal and Bobby DeFreze added 4a while defenseman, Chris Vincelli had a solid defensive effort to Aquinas (6-3). McQuaid Jesuit is 3-8.  In the other GRALL matchup, Livonia beat Haverling-Haverling, 13-6 at Livonia's Saunders Field as four of the first five goals of the game came from senior attackman, Aaron Young, all on assists from senior, Pat Wahl. Junior attackman, Liam Glover kept Haverling within striking distance with two first half goals for the Rams.
 
The Bulldogs defense was stingy all night long. Senior, Jake Auburn did a great job in the goal recording seven saves. Long stick defensemen, Kevin Thomas, Shane Moran, Ray Miles, and Andy Kurtz shut down Ram attackmen Ryan Finney, Liam Glover, and Ritchie Zajac most of the night.
 
"Our kids did a great job of coming out of the gate fast. That was one of our goals for tonight because we haven't done that well lately," said Coach Sciera. "Our rivalry with Haverling has been a great one over the past 4 or five years. The kids have a lot of respect for each other and that showed on the field. They all played a very classy game."
 
Scoring for Livonia were Wahl (2g-6a), Aaron Young (5g-1a) and Josh Hendrickson (2g-1a). Ryan Rossborough scored (2g) while Scott Mosher and Shawn Wright each added a goal. Tom Every (10gb) and John Dalberth each added assists for the Bulldogs. Senior, Jake Auburn (7s) and Sophomore, Aaron Jamison (2s) combined in the goal for Livonia (6-5).
 
Junior attackman, Liam Glover led the Haverling scoring with 2g-2a, while Brandon Smith, Jeremy Sutfin, Greg Gleason and Keegan Ordway each added one goal. Senior goalie, Dusty Smith recorded 11s for Haverling (3-9).
 
 Brighton Sophomore midfielder, Robbie Asselin scored 4g and senior attackman, Zack Davis added 3g-2a for the Barons (5-5) as they defeated Hilton, 11-5 under the lights at Brighton.
 
Senior middie, Tyler Enders had 3g-1a for Hilton (2-9). [No reports from Brighton or Hilton.]
 
It was Fairport over host, Webster Schroeder, 11-7 as sophomore attackman, Pat Reilly scored 3g-2a and freshman middie, Tom Rynn and senior middie, Pat VanHall each added 2g-1a. Senior middie, Pete Gibbons recorded 2a and Jeff Sanna and Ryan Lowe each added a goal for the Red Raiders. Sophomore goalie, Geoff Mayor made 11 saves in the goal for Fairport (6-5).
 
Junior attackman, Steve Jonas scored 3g-1a for Schroeder (6-4). [No report from Schroeder.]
 
 Penfield beat host Rush-Henrietta, 14-2 as junior attackman, Tim Pfeffer scored 3g-2a and senior attackman, Kevin McGuigan added 3g for Penfield. Junior attackman, Trevor Rice recorded 2g-4a and senior middie, AJ Civalier added 1g-4a while senior attackman, Ryan O'Donnell added 2g for the Patriots. Mike Thon, Mike Arvan and Felix Liverman each scored one goal for Penfield, who remains undefeated at 11-0. [Score only form R-H.]
 
 Waterloo scored seven goals in the first quarter on their way to a 17-2 victory over host Pal-Mac as Nate Boyd came up with 4g-1a and Dave Osborne added 2g-3a. Mike Stohm scored 1g-3a, Andy Bennett scored 3g and Matt Haws and Jason Johnson each scored 2g. Matt Kaiser (1g-2a), T.J. Radka (1g-2a) and Shawn Dunphy (1g-1a) added to the Indian's score, whose record moves to 10-3.
 
Junior midfielder, Dave Bennett and junior attackman, Jamie Sinopoli scored the goals for Pal-Mac (2-9).
