Game Report: Tue - 04/27/2004

- This was the first day of cross over games for the Monroe County as Division 1 teams play Division 2 teams.
   
Webster Thomas scored the first goal, but Penfield quickly regained the lead and took a 5-3 lead into the half-time break. Although 6-4 going into the last quarter, the Patriots scored 3 unanswered goals before the Titans scored the final goal of the game.
   
Seven different Penfield players were involved in their scoring, led by senior attackmen, Kevin McGuigan and Ryan O'Donnell who each scored 2g-1a.Tim Pfeffer, Kelly McKenna and Jason Knerr each contributed 1g-1a while Dennis Bell and AJ Civalier each added a goal. Senior midfielder, Felix Liverman added an assist for Penfield who also controlled face offs as seniors, Mike Thon won 6 or 7 and AJ Civalier won 5 of 7. Sophomore Goalie, Brian Dell recorded 9 saves for the Patriots who remain the only Monroe County team that is still undefeated (8-0).
   
Senior midfielder, Jeff Casper led the offense for Thomas with 2g. Three others scored one goal each: senior attackman, John Schumacher (1g-1a), senior middie, Nick Dalton and freshman attackman, Dom Scalzo. Sophomore attackman, Kevin Kemp added an assist for Thomas Senior goalie, Boomer Concordia made an impressive 19 saves for the Titans (6-3). [No report from Thomas.]
   
Pittsford went right to work with a 5-1 first quarter and 7-1 first half against Eastridge at Pittsford Mendon High School. The Panthers out shot the Lancers 49-20 and won the ground ball game, 48-28. Senior midfielder, RJ Lamontagne led the Panthers with 3g-3a while junior attackman, Jake Boyce added 2g-2a and senior attackman, David Wallace finished by 3g-1a. A total of seven different Pittsford players combined for scoring, including attackmen, Justin Rand and JJ Postel who each produced 2g. Senior midfielder Pat Kendrick and junior middie, Dylan Bittlingmaier each added a goal. Pittsford won 15/21 face offs and goalies, Ed Witter (6s), Steve Mathews (2s) and Dom Govert (3s) combined for the in for Pittsford (4-2).
   
Three of the goals scored by Eastridge (1-7) were in man up situations. [No report from Eastridge.]
   
"It was like coming home," said HFL Head Coach Rick Pound after the Cougars beat home team, Rush-Henrietta, 10-7. Coach Pound was an R-H Varsity Assistant in 1998. His current team needed to double their score in the last quarter for the win as the Royal Comets held the lead throughout the first three quarters. Junior attackman, Jeff Price was the scoring leader for the Cougars with 5g-1a while his classmate, Mike Cintineo followed right behind with 3g-2a. Senior middie, Erich Dehm added 2g and Jake Vogt, David Uzialko and Eric Holton each added a goal. Holton also added an assist for HFL. Junior goalie, Mike Brisbane had 16 saves for the Cougars (7-1).

It was a one-sided event as Canandaigua beat Newark, 20-2 with twelve different players contributing to the score. Senior midfielder, Steve Smith had a big day with 2 goals, 6 assists, 9 ground balls and 8 of 10 face offs for the Braves. Fellow senior Bob Bush won 4 of 5 face offs, produced a goal and 2 assists and also picked up 9 ground balls. Senior middie, Mike Pane led the scoring with 4g-1a, Aaron Manzer added 3g-1a and Chris Mulheron (2g-1a), Tyler Emery (2g-1a), Ben Stanley, and Brian Hadsell each scored 2g for Canandaigua. Junior midfielder had 1g-2a while senior, Dan Serafine (6s) and sophomore, Matt McMahon (4s) split the goalkeeper duties for CA. The defensive unit of Ed Walsh, Grady Moore and Brian McWilliams held the Reds away from the goal. Todd Anthony and Jeremy Nemecek each added an assist and junior middie, Todd Anthony has a goal for the undefeated Braves (9-0).
   
Scoring for Newark were senior middie, Mike Wilkes and senior attackman, Nate Colon. Sophomore midfielder, Alex Quku has both assists. Sophomore goalie Anthony Cole and senior goalie, Matt Gerhart combined for 8 saves for Newark (3-4). [Score only from Newark.]
