Lacrosse Officials Announce Awards

- At their "Year-End Gathering" the members of the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association announced their annual Frank Mangione Award for Excellence award winner.

Mangione with McLivertyThe award is given to a GVLOA member who has demonstrated the highest ideals of professionalism, leadership, passion and above all, respect for the game of lacrosse at any level both on and off the field. Mangione served in many capacities within the organization for more than forty years and stills servers as one of the game assignors.

Mangione was on hand at the gathering to present the award to this year's recipient, Alan McLiverty who has been an official for over twenty years. He has also been involved with the Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse, where he is currently serving as President.

In order to receive this new honor, nominees must demonstrate great commitment to the game and the Association. They must hold at least ten years of membership and through their efforts, both on and off the field must advance the game of lacrosse with a special commitment to officiating.

During the Sectional tournaments, the association announced the winners of the team sportsmanship awards. The officials who work games evaluate the teams and fans and award points. In class A, the awards was given to East United. The class B award went to Canandaigua. The Class C award was presented to Honeoye Falls-Lima and the Class D award went to Penn Yan.

The GVLOA serves the Section Five area by providing officials for the boys game at all levels and during the whole year. The organization is always looking for new members that they will help with training and support. More information is available on the chapter web site.
