Penfield vs Fairport FinalsPenfield came out in the first half and dominated the play.  The Patriots scored five unanswered goals to lead 5-1 early in the second quarter.  Their offense and defense were clearly stronger and Fairport did not look like themselves.  During halftime, Fairport pulled themselves together and the matchup was much closer in the second half.  Fairport slowly chipped away at the Patriot lead; however, Penfield held on to the final minutes to secure the Title.

Penfield led by four goals with 7:13 remaining before the Red Raiders scored the final three goals of the game.  Brennan Maloney, who was named to the All Tournament Team, assisted the first goal and then scored the next two to almost single handedly bring his team back from the four goal deficit.  Both teams played a hard fought matchup.  One of the keys to Penfield success was at the face-off.  Bennett Webster had a strong game, especially in the first half, and gave key opportunities to his offense.  Offensively, Penfield’s Jack Cummings finished with 2g-2a and was named Class A Tournament MVP.  Senior midfielder Jack Joyce finished with 3g and was also named to the Team.  Defensively, senior William Fell was named to the Team.

Penfield vs Fairport FinalsFairport, who struggled in the first half, came together and outscored Penfield 6-3 in the final nine goals (the last goal of the first half into the second half).  Of the final six Red Raider goals, Maloney was a part of five (3g-2a).  Joining Maloney on the All Tournament Team was Klay Stuver (3g-1a) and Spencer Bell (1g-1a).  Defensively, senior Jacob Krause was selected.

Fairport opened up the scoring 1:11 into the game.  Stuver scored of an outside shot from the left wing.  The Red Raiders did not score again for 17 minutes.  Penfield finished out the first quarter with four goals.  The first was scored with an outside shot from Joyce.  Less than ten seconds later, Dan Taddeo scored.  He picked up the loose ball on the crease and finished into the back of the net.  Another 19 seconds passed and Penfield added their third.  Jacob Emmick scored with a hard outside shot during a slow break off the faceoff.  The final first quarter goal was scored with a sweep from the right side by Cummings.  Penfield led 4-1 after 12 minutes.

In the second quarter, Penfield scored the first goal.  Joey Barboza scored with a drive along the right flat.  He then quickly stopped and pushed back for an underhanded shot.  Fairport finally got back on the board with 5:24 remaining in the second quarter.  Maloney took a shot that missed the cage.  It was grabbed behind the cage by Bell.  He redirected the ball to the other side of the field and found Reese Burek open for the goal.  Barboza scored another unassisted goal with a single player dodge from the top through the defense.  Fairport trailed 6-2 with time counting down in the half.  They had one more chance and scored with 0:07 remaining.  Maloney dumped the ball to the crease as he fell to the turf.  Bell was there to finish into the back of the net.  Penfield led 6-3 going into halftime.

Penfield vs Fairport FinalsFairport was a different team in the second half.  They scored two more goals to pull within one.  Maloney scored unassisted with a drive through traffic from behind the cage and Stuver scored with an outside shot during a flag down situation.  The only other goal of the third quarter was scored by Penfield with 3:38 remaining.  The play began with Ryan Reynolds grabbing a loose ball on defense.  The ball was quickly moved up field and after a rapid succession of half a dozen passes. Dan Taddeo found Joyce open for his second goal.  Penfield led 7-5 after three quarters.

The Patriots came into the final quarter and extended their lead to 3.  Joyce scored his third with an outside shot from the right side and Cummings scored with a drive down the center.  Cumming’s goal was the final for the Patriots and was scored with 7:13 remaining.  The Red Raiders finished out the game with a man-up goal from Stuver (assisted by Maloney) and back to back goals from Maloney.  In the final 90 seconds both teams had attempts at the cage.  Three timeouts were used in the final 70 seconds and both teams jockeyed for the ball.  Fairport had one last attempt at the cage in the final 15 seconds, but Penfield got the ball and sent it upfield to hold the one goal lead.

In addition to those listed above,  two players from the Semi Finals were named to the All Tournament Team: From Greece Storm defenseman Ryan Makowski and from Pittsford attackman Ryan Dumont.
