HFL Comes Back in Fourth Quarter for Win

- HFL and Hilton played a close game tonight with the Cougars winning 8-6.  HFL opened up with the first goal less than one minute into play.  Jonathan Roth scored with a single player drive down the left side to give the Cougars and early 1-0 lead.  Two minutes later and Hilton responded.  Justin Mosher drove at the cage and instead of taking a shot, he passed off to Jordan DePetres behind the cage.  DePetres was already moving and came around the goal line to finish into the back of the net.

HFL file photo Hilton scored again thirty seconds later with an outside shot by Michael Laber (again off an assist from Mosher).  The Cadets took their first lead and held it for two minutes.  HFL’s second goal was scored off an unsettled situation.  A missed shot that bounced off the pipe was fielded by Garrett Ruff about 8m off the goal.  He grabbed the loose ball and finished into the top shelf to tie the game for the second time (2-2).  The Cougars re-took the lead with another goal at 5:26. Roth scored his second goal of the night with an outside shot from the top left.  HFL led 3-2 after the first quarter.

There were only two goals in the second quarter and they were both scored by HFL’s Ruff of feeds from Tyler Kaufman.  The first was an outside shot during extra-man offense and the second was an outside during even play.  The Cougars led 5-2 going into halftime.

In the second half, Hilton came back with vengeance.  They scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter and held the Cougars scoreless.  With 0:33 remaining in the quarter, DePetres scored his third goal of the night off a feed from Ben Mitrano to put the Cadets in the lead for the first time since 2-1.  They led 6-5 going into the final quarter.  In the fourth quarter, HFL scored three goals and held the Cadets scoreless.  Andrew Mapstone scored two and Roth scored one.  Roth finished the game with 3g.
