FM Defeats Pittsford

- Fayetteville-Manlius scored the first three goals of the game and although Pittsford tied the game three times, the Hornets never let go of the lead in their 8-6 win.  FM’s opener was scored with an outside shot by Nick Papa.  Papa finished with 3g-2a to lead his team.  Two minutes later, Chris Lubrino scored on a fast-break goal.

FM at Pittsford With 4:04 remaining, the Hornets added their third goal with a cut from behind by Papa.  He came high off the crease and stepped inside GLE against the defense for a point blank shot.  The Hornets led 3-0 after 12 minutes.  Pittsford responded by scoring the first three goals of the second quarter to tie the game for the first time at 3-3.  Sonny Imburgia scored the first two goals.  His first was a dodge down the left side and his second was a midrange shot that bounced high into the corner.  John Avery scored the first tying goal from the crease.  John Mozrall cut to the crease and then crossed to Avery.

After being tied for just over a minute, FM scored again.  Jack Shanley scored the first of his three goal off with a midrange shot from the right side off a feed from Papa at the top of the restraining line.  With time running down in the half, Jake Robinson scored off a fast-break down the left alley.  The score was tied 4-4 going into halftime.

FM at Pittsford In the third quarter, FM scored the first goal two minutes into play with an inside feed from Papa to Shanley.  Shanley, facing away from the cage, grabbed the pass, dropped his shoulder and turned into the shot.  Less than thirty seconds later, Pittsford tied the game for the final time.  Mozrall received a fast-break pass from Patrick Sanna.  He took the ball and cut into the defense.  He turned the defenseman and finished into the back of the net.  FM finished out the third with back to back goals to put them up by two going into the final quarter.  Papa scored his third with a drive along the right goal line.  With 3:57 remaining in third quarter, Lubrino fed inside to Shanley on the crease.  All three of Shanley’s goals were scored off of inside feeds.  The Hornets led 7-5 going into the final quarter.

Each team added a single goal in the last 12 minutes. For Pittsford, Avery assisted Jake Robinson and for FM, Michael Howe assisted Lubrino.  In the cage for Pittsord, Brecken Catalano finished at 53% with 9 recorded saves.  FM will face their second Section Five opponent next Saturday when Victor travels out to them.
