Irondequoit and Hilton Get Overtime Wins

- Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: UPDATED: It took an overtime goal to give Irondequoit a 12-11 win over HFL tonight. Hilton won an 8-7 overtime win when Justin Mosher scored on a feed from Jordan DePetres. Marcus Whitman won an 11-9 victory over Gates Chili and Midlakes had a 10-8 win overt Mynderse.

Midlakes fought back in the second half with seven unanswered goals to defeat Mynderse 10-8. The Screaming Eagles trailed 0-5 with 8:30 remaining in the second quarter before beginning their scoring run. Leading the charge in the run were Brandon Macdonell and Gavin Lathrop who scored three goals each. Once Midlakes took over the lead, they never let it go. Mynderse attempted to keep the game close but could not force another tie after 5-5. Leading in scoring for Mynderse were Ian Anderson (1g-2a) and Ethan Spinner (2g-1a).

C-C at SpencerportMarcus Whitman scored the first goal of the game and although Gates Chili tied the game once, the Wildcats never trailed in their 11-9 win over the Spartans. Marcus Whitman was led in scoring by Seth Benedict with 6g-1a. Benedict was particularly helpful in setting the pace. He scored five straight goals for the Wildcats to move from a 2-2 tie to leading 7-3. Timmy Cornish recorded 5a to add to the Wildcat count. For Gates-Chili Connor Hamilton (2g-1a) and Blake Palozzi (3a) led in scoring.

In the first of two overtime matchups, Hilton defeated Greece Storm 8-7. Justin Mosher scored off a feed from Jordan DePetres to give the Cadets their first overtime win of the season (they lost earlier in the year to Fairport 8-7 in overtime). The Storm led the contest early before Hilton fought back to tie the game at 3-3. Over the course of the game, the score was tied four times. After a tie, Hilton scored on each occasion; however, Greece kept coming back and tying the game. DePetres led in scoring for the Cadets with 1g-3a. For Greece, Nicholas Leonardi and Matthew McHale were both 2g-1a.

C-C at Spencerport Irondequoit and HF-L played a back and forth contest with both teams leading during the contest. The Eagles won the game in the first overtime period with 2:08 remaining. HFL took the early lead off goals from Parker Hotchkiss and Garrett Ruff. The Cougars increased their lead over the first half and held a 5-2 lead with 4:40 remaining in the half. Irondequoit fought back to a 5-5 and 6-6 before halftime. In the second half, Irondequoit continued their pressure and took an 8-6 lead before HFL got back on the board. Both teams refused to give up and the game was tied again at 8-8, 9-9.

HF-L scored their final goal of the game to go up 11-9 with 0:59 remaining in regulation. Jonathan Roth scored his 3rd goal for the Cougars with just under a minute remaining. Irondequoit scored their tenth goal with an unassisted goal from Kessel Stefano with 0:38 remaining. The game tying goal to force overtime was another unassisted goal, this time from Nick Slattery with only 0:11 remaining on the clock. Just under two minutes into the first overtime period, Irondequoit junior midfielder Quinn Simonson scored on a feed from Jack Brennan scored the game winning goal.

In the second game of the Girls-Boys Double Header of the "Cradle for a Cure" program, the boy’s of Wayne defeated Pal-Mac 17-9. This marked the sixth annual "Cradle for a Cure" matchup to support a local family and Camp Good Days and Special Times. The local fundraising/awareness event is currently in its sixth year.
