Wayne 8 - Gates Chili 7 in Double Overtime

- Senior attackman Tim Oddi won the game for Wayne in the second overtime period as the Eagles posted an 8-7 win over visiting Gates Chili. The Spartans open the game outscoring Wayne 4-2 in the first quarter, although the Eagles scored the first goal of the game when Andrew Jenkins took a pass from Tim Oddi at 10:57. Gates countered with the next three goals, each unassisted (Joe O`Hare, Jonathan Santiago and Austin Castre). Wayne reversed their earlier goal as Jenkins fed Oddi for a goal at 4:17, but on the next face off senior midfielder Mark LaRose scored an unassisted goal for the Spartans and the quarter ended with Gates up 4-2.

Wayne came right back in the second quarter with John Ecker scoring on a feed from Jack Camp and the Chris Schimpf scoring on a feed from Jake Moss. With just over two minutes left in the half, O`Hare scored another unassisted goal to give the Spartans a 5-4 lead at the halftime break.

The slow third quarter saw only one goal, as Wayne tied the game for the third time with a goal by Jenkins assisted by Eric Crumb. At the end if three quarters the game was tied at 5-5.

The fourth quarter saw both teams trading goals. Wayne started things off when Nic Martin scored of a pass from Jenkins at 8:31. Four minutes later Gates tied the game at 6-6 on a goal from Kirkpatrick, assisted by Joe Talarico. Three minutes after that Wayne took the lead on an unassisted Jake Moss goal and then with just over one minute left in regulation, Brett Kirkpatrick scored his unassisted goal to force overtime.

In the first overtime period both goalies made two saves. In the second period Oddi scored his unassisted winning goal with 0:57 left.

Wayne senior goalie, Justin Townsend finished the game with 14 saves. Gates Chili sophomore goalie Michael Cavallaro finished with 10 saves. Wayne (4-2) will play at Midlakes tomorrow. Gates Chili (1-6) will host the Greece Lighting on Thursday.
