Penfield Advances to Finals

- In the second game of the Class A double-header second seeded Penfield defeated third seeded Greece Storm 13-5 to move on the Semi-Finals.  The Patriots will move on to face top seeded Fairport at St. John Fisher College on Tuesday.  This is the first time Penfield has made the Finals since 2015.  The last time that Penfield won the big game was 2013.

Greece vs Penfield SemiPenfield scored the first goal of the game with Joey Barboza assisting Dan Taddeo 1:24 into the game.   Taddeo scored from the middle of the restraining box.  Three minutes later, Greece Storm scored their first goal.  Paul Forte scored the goal that began off a broken clear.  He moved the ball quickly upfield and found Trevor Gillard open for the goal.  The Patriots never trailed and 1-1 was the only tie of the contest.  Penfield finished out the first quarter with two more goals.  Jack Cuymmings scored the first and Max Hoadley scored the second, both were unassisted.  Hoadley’s goal was a straight drive to the cage from the back left.  Penfield led 3-1 after 12 minutes.

In the second quarter, Penfield extended their lead with five of the first six goals of the quarter.  Jack Joyce scored the opener with a high cut by Cummings and an inside feed to Joyce.  Next up, Jacob Emmick fed Barboza on the crease with an inside look.  Barboza’s goal was his 100th career goals. Greece’s second goal was scored with a drive to the crease by Nicholas Leonardi.  Greece vs Penfield SemiHe finished into the net with an underhanded and backhanded shot on the cage.  The Patriots responded with another three goals.  Drew Stoler, Taddeo and Barboza scored for the Patriots.  The final goal of the half was scored by the Storm with Leonardi scoring on a midrange outside shot.  Penfield led 8-3 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Penfield added four goals and held Greece scoreless.  The Patriots had scoring from Michael Mitchell, Barboza, Jacob Emmick and Cummings.  The Patriots extended their lead to 12-3 after 36 minutes.  The fourth quarter began with a Greece goal from Tyler Flanagan during extra man.  Four minutes later, Penfield added their first goal of the fourth quarter with a man-up goal by Emmick off an assist from Taddeo.  With 3:11 remaining in the game, Greece scored during man-up.  Jacob Holdaway scored off a midrange cross field pass from Leonardi.  The Storm won the ensuing faceoff but could not convert in the final minutes.  Penfield moves on the face Fairport in the Finals on Tuesday.
