Gananda Wins in Double Overtime

- Patrick Shanley scored the game winning overtime in the second overtime period to earn Gananda the 9-8 win over Geneva.  The Blue Panthers won their second one goal game in a row to remain undefeated at 6-0.  The Panthers fought back to force a tie with the last three goals of the game but they could not retake the lead in the final four minutes.

Gananda at Geneva The game began with back to back goals by Geneva.  The Panthers scored the first goal 1:29 into the game with Dugan Doeblin feeding Noah Eighmey on the crease.  Two minutes later, they scored again with a drive from the top of the restraining line by Nick Askin.  The Panthers led 2-0 four minutes into play.  Gananda responded with the next four goals spanning 14 minutes.  Henry Bush scored the opening goal for the Blue Panthers with a cut along the left side of goal-line extended.  When he came close to the crease, he jumped and turned to fire over his defenseman.  Gananda kept up the pressure and scored the game’s first tying goal in extra man offense.  Brett Cunningham scored the first of his five goals with a shot off the right flat.  The go-ahead goal was scored by Cunningham with 0:04 remaining in the quarter.  He drove down the right side and forced the ball into the back of the cage.  Gananda led 3-2 after 12 minutes.

The fourth straight Blue Panther goal was scored by Shanley with a drive along the left flat with 6:37 remaining in the half.  Geneva scored their third goal after a fourteen minute draught.  Kenny Santiago scored with a single one-on-one drive down the left side.  Gananda scored two more goals before halftime to increase their lead to 6-3 going into the break.  Evan Smith and Cunningham scored unassisted goals.  Cunningham’s goal with 1:15 was an impressive singular effort on a slow break that began near the restraining line that was taken all the way to the goal.
