Gates Chili Dominate Third Quarter to Win

- Gates Chili scored eight unanswered goals to defeat Spencerport 10-9.  The Spartans were looking for redemption for their season opening overtime loss to Spencerport (HERE).  Tonight, Gates Chili had a 10-5 lead before the Rangers scored the last four goals and attempted to force overtime.  The Rangers played a strong first half and led 5-2 with 4:26 remaining in the second quarter, before Gates Chili scored eight straight.

Gates Chili’s Kyle Fingar scored the opening goal (unassisted) before Spencerport responded with three of their own.  Jack Lehtonen, Jonathan Agness and Charlie McMahon scored for the Rangers.  Kyle Krystan scored the first of his 4g for the Spartans to open up the second quarter.  Spencerport scored two more to take their three goal lead.  Over the next 24 minutes, Gates Chili’s defense held the Rangers scoreless.  During that time, their offense added eight goals.

The first four goals were scored before halftime.  The Spartans led 6-5 at the half.  In the third quarter, they scored the only three goals with one from Krystan and two from Jarrett Kirkpatrick.  The Spartans tacked on the first goal of the fourth with Krystan scoring off a feed from Nicholas Ehmann.  The Rangers attempted to comeback in the final five minutes.

In the four goal stretch, Jonathan Agness scored the first goal and assisted the last two. Owen VanWie scoring the three final goals.  The final goal was scored with 90 seconds remaining, but the Rangers could not force overtime.  For the Rangers, VanWie led in ground balls with 13.  He also finished 17/20 at the draw.  Defenseman Tyler O’Neal finished with 3 takes for Spencerport.

For Gates Chili, Carson Spychala, CJ Parker and Peter Guerrieri each finished with four groundballs.  Guerrieri also recorded four takes.  In the cage, Robert Phillips recorded 8 saves.
