Newark Surprised Gananda

- NOTES:  Tenth seeded Newark scored their second upset of the post-season with a 12-11 win over second seeded Gananda. The Reds were led in scoring by Andrew Garrett with 4g-1a. Newark fought back from a number of deficits and scored a four goals stretch in the fourth quarter to secure their win.

Gananda scored the first three goals of the game with Nick Rapp, Joe Fisher (Riley Palmer) and Patrick Shanley (Cruz Mayberry) scoring. Fisher and Rapp both finished with 4g for the Blue Panthers to lead. Defenseman Dylan Joy finished with 1g-3a. At the conclusion of the first quarter, Gananda held the 3-0 lead. Newark`s first goal was scored by Garrett with 11:13 remaining in the second quarter. Grant Howard added his lone goal to bring the game within one. Joy`s first assist came to Fisher to put the Blue Panthers back up by two.

Deven Lewis and Garrett scored with back to back goals to tie the game for the first time. 0:16 later, Gananda scored to put them back on top. Two minutes later they added another to lead 6-4 with 4:59 in the half. Both teams added a goal in the last two minutes of half with Garret scoring for Newark and Palmer scoring for Gananda. The Blue Panthers led 7-5 going into halftime.
Newark outscored Gananda 7-4 in the second half with a stretch of three unanswered goals in the third and four unanswered goals in the fourth. In the cage for Gananda, Justin Anken recorded five saves. Face off midfielder Remmy Glod finished at 54% (13/24). He also recorded 12 ground balls. Joy added another 12 and defenseman Matt Rapp added another four. For the Reds, Connor Tickner finished with 14 saves. Newark will come into the Semi-Finals as the lowest seed (10) in all three tournaments. They will face third seeded Aquinas on Saturday at Waterloo.
