Brockport Over Eastridge 12-9

-  SPORTSFIVE REPORT:  After outscoring Eastridge 6-3 in the second half, Brockport defeated the Lancers 12-9. This was the first win for the Blue Devils over the Lancers since April 2013. The game was high scoring with both teams scoring on over 30% of their total shots. The majority of the scoring came from three players. Brockport junior midfielders Austin Myers finished with 5g and senior midfielder Quinton Caleb finished with 4g-3a. Sophomore attackman Andrew Doktor finished with 5g-2a for Eastridge. The three accounted for just fewer than 50% of the total shots by both teams.

Brockport started off the scoring 90 seconds into the game with a drive from the right side by Myers. Myers scored three of the first four goals for the Blue Devils with the same drive down the sideline (twice from the right and once from the left). Forty seconds later, Clark Pearce scored his first career Varsity point with a goal to tie the game for the first of four times. Eastridge took their lone lead of the game with a feed from Doktor to CJ Hiscock with 7:47 remaining in play. Myers scored to tie the game for the second time. Caleb scored his first goal off a face off fast break only 0:20 later. Caleb finished with a team leading 10 grounds balls (4 coming off face offs). Myers and Caleb each added another goal to take the score to 5-2 with 2:43 left in the opening quarter. The final goal of the quarter was scored by senior Anthony Suero with an assist from Elvis Gujic. Brockport held a two goal lead after 12 minutes.

Eastridge fought back to a tied score with three goals in the second quarter. The Lancers scored the opening two goals of the quarter with back to back goals from Doktor. The first was assisted by Fagan and the latter was assisted Hiscock. The score was tied 5-5 with 4:52 left in the opening half. Myers scored the first of Brockport's two man-up goals with an assist from Tyler Stiefel to briefly take back the lead. Doktor scored another unassisted goal to keep the game tied going into halftime.

In the third quarter Brockport took control as they scored six of the next seven goals (including the first three) and then never looked back. Eastridge added two goals in the final 45 seconds, but they could not overcome the strong play from the Blue Devils. During their scoring streak, Brockport added their second man-up goal as well as a man-down goal from Caleb.

Defensively, long stick Jake Sweet had a tremendous day for the Blue Devils. He finished with four ground balls and three takes. Sweet, a junior, was an instrumental force in the close defense and solo-cleared the ball on a number of occasions. Adding to the ground ball count for the day were midfielder Jon Yaeger and attackman Stiefel with five each. In the cage, Elijah Ryan finished with 8 saves.

For the Lancers, junior goalie Max Kelly finished with seven saves. Midfielder Curtis Beaty finished with a team leading six ground balls. He also finished at 65% for the face off draw (11/17).
