McDermott Leads Brighton to Victory

- Brighton scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter to pull away from Spencerport.  The Barons won 18-11 after the Rangers scored the final two goals.  Brighton was led in scoring by Brady McDermott with 6g-3a.  The first goal of the game was scored only 0:25 into play with B. McDermott finding Shea McDonald open on the crease after a fast-break down the field.

Brighton scored the next two with identical drives from behind.  The first was scored by B. McDermott and the second by Casey McDermott.  Spencerport responded with three goals of their own in only 50 seconds.  The first was a midrange shot by Mark Schnauber from Jonathan Agness.  The second began on the ensuing face-off with Owen VanWie picking up his own faceoff draw.  VanWie finished 18/26 at the draw with a team leading 10 groundballs.  VanWie pushed the ball up field to Agness who crossed the ball to Zach Edwards.  The third Ranger goal was scored during man-up with Schnauber assisting Jack Lehtonen on a midrange shot.  With 0:14 remaining in the opening quarter, Brighton scored their fourth goal.  C. McDermott stayed with the Brighton staple and drove a high drive from behind the cage.  This time, instead of shooting, C. McDermott fed a leading pass across the crease to B. McDermott for the goal.  Brighton led 4-3 after the first quarter.

Spencerport at BrightonBrighton came out in the second quarter and scored a man-up goal with Owen Ronchetti assisting C. McDermott.  Less than thirty seconds later, Spencerport scored again.  Schnauber assisted Todd Smith with a feed from behind the cage to a hard cut by Smith from the restraining line.  Brighton added the next two with goals from B. McDermott and Lukas Stanat.  For the Rangers, Agness assisted the next goal with an inside feed to Lehtonen.  Shortly thereafter, Agness was on the receiving end of an inside feed.  This time assisted by VanWie.  Each team added one more goal before halftime.  Brighton scored during man-up with C. McDermott assisting Stanat.  With 0:07 remaining in the half, Agness made a single player drive from behind the cage to give the Rangers their 7th goal and pull the game back within a single goal (8-7 Brighton).

As noted above, Brighton dominated the third quarter with six unanswered goals.  Stanat scored the first off a cross-crease feed from B. McDermott.  B.  McDermott scored the next two back to back with a sweep from the right side and another high drive from behind the cage.  Freshman Olsin Stanat scored his first Varsity goal with a high bounce shot from right in front of the crease.  The goal was assisted by Calvin Tourangeau from the top of the restraining line.  The Barons led 14-7 after three quarters.  In the final quarter, both teams added four goals.  However, the Barons continued to the control the game and hold out for the win.
