Some Surprising Scores

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were 11 games played today and 5 were close ones. Spencerport was a 10-9 winner over HFL. Fairport defeated Greece Storm by a score of 5-4. Victor defeated Thomas by a score of 8-6. Livonia-Avon defeated Midlakes-Red Jacket by a score of 8-6. 

Newark at Pal-MacBLOOMFIELD-HONEOYE-7 at MYNDERSE-13 - Both Junior attackman Griffin Hilimire (4g-3a) and Senior midfielder Dylan Tandle reached their 50th career goal in the game that also saw offensive numbers from Jack Brady (4g-1a), and Phillip Love (2g-1a). Leading the scoring for Bloomfield-Honeoye (2-2) were John Blair (3g-2a), Liam Roach (3g-1a), and Tyler Bruder (2g). Facing specialist Cody Whittaker had just over half the draws (13+/12- = 52%) and in the goal junior Ethan Stoddard recorded 14s/13ga = 52% (48 mins). FAIRPORT-5 at GREECE STORM-4 - There must have been some great defense in this game as neither team scored in the first quarter and both teams score one in the second. Although the Red Raiders fell behind in the third quarter, their four fourth quarter goals gave them the win. Scoring for Fairport (4-2) were Mitch Monte (3g-1a), Michael Priddy (1g), Ryan Priddy (1a), and Ryan Pedro (1g). Luke Ryan recorded 7s/4ga = 64% (48 mins). Ethan Aust (3g-1a), Brodie Joyce (2g-1a), and Senior midfielder Christian Brown (1a) added to the offensive page. Mason Schembri registered 8s/7ga = 53% (48 mins) for Penfield who will host Irondequoit on Thursday. Newark at Pal-MacLIVONIA-AVON-8 at MIDLAKES-RED JACKET-6 - In another close game, Midlakes-Red Jacket took a 3-2 lead at the halftime break and both teams scored three in the third. The Lakers won on three unanswered goal in the fourth quarter. Livonia-Avon Junior goaltended Colton Rose was a key to the win with 11s/6ga = 65% (48 mins).  Leading the scoring for the Lakers (3-2) were 8th grade offensiveman Will Schweitzer (2g-3a), 8th grade offensiveman Brayden Arber (1g-1a), Junior offensiveman Max McEnerney (1g-1a), Senior offensiveman A.J. Newark at Pal-MacCANANDAIGUA-12 at ORCHARD PARK-8 - This is the 5th win in a row for Canandaigua against Orchard Park going back to 04/20/2017. The Gray Wolves led 4-0 in the first quarter and 7-2 at the half. Leading the scoring for Canandaigua (5-2) were Mike Belles (3g-3a), Sean Olvany (1g-4a), and Drew Williamee (3g). Faceoff specialist Mason DePew recorded 11+/3- = 79%. Newark at Pal-MacVICTOR-8 at THOMAS-6 in a Monroe County D-2 game: The Blue Devils scored first and stayed in the lead throughout the game as the teams exchanged scoring six times. Scoring for Victor (3-2) were Jack Herendeen (1g-2a), Brody Secker (3g), Kyle Saeger (2g), Tanner Radogna (1g-1a), and Colin Wheeler (1g). Sophomore midfielder Colin Wheeler scored his first Varsity goal for the Blue Devils who will host Spencerport on Thursday. Leading the scoring for Thomas were Jagger Altieri (2g-1a), Brandon Trottier (2g), and Jake Polizzi (1g). The Titans will play at Pittsford on Thursday.   [ BOX SCORE

HFL-9 at SPENCERPORT-10 - The teams were tied at the half (5-5) and the Cougars took the advantage after three quarters, up 8-7, but the Rangers had a 3-1 fourth quarter to take the win. Sophomore midfielder Zach Tortora (3g-2a) broke the 8-8 tie with two goals in a row.  Also scoring for Spencerport (4-1) were Jayden Mandarano (3g-1a), and Jamison Brown (2g-0a). Players of the Week - First of the Year

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with the Canandaigua National Bank are, once again, sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our first group we have a junior and a sophomore who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Sean OlvanyBrody Secker - Victor Midfielder

Brody Secker has started out his junior year making a statement. In a very close game with Niskayuna (Section II) that saw four ties and five lead changes, Brody received a feed from Jack Herendeen with 00:02:42 left in overtime and scored the game winning goal. In the 10-9 game, Brody had 2g.

Head Coach Dan Stone says, "Brody continues to embrace his new roles and responsibilities for our team this year. It has not taken him long to make an impact in many positive ways, not only on the field, but also with his contagious positive attitude in the locker room and sideline. Brody is a dynamic player helping our team establish its identity this season."

Defensive Player of the Week

Nick LepianeJake Gibson - Aquinas Goalie

Jake Gibson had a big week, winning three games with 27 saves. He had 15 saves (75%) in the Aquinas 16-7 win over Geneva and 9 saves (56%) in the overtime win with Canisius. In that game he made a point-blank save in overtime that was key to the win. The sophomore, in his second year on the Varsity, has 205 career saves and an average of 63%. Last year he was named to the Class D All-Tournament team and was a first team GRALL goalie.

Head Coach Terry Corcoran says, “Jake is an outstanding athlete who works hard to be the best goalie he can be every day. He`s a resilient competitor with an outstanding attitude. Jake is a pleasure to coach.”

Pal-Mac and Geneva Win

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - There were 3 games played today and all of them were won by more than three goals. Geneva downed Churchville-Chili, Pal-Mac kept their streak alive with a win over visiting Marcus Whitman, and Batavia-ND fell to Lewiston-Porter.

CC at GenMARCUS WHITMAN-7 at PAL-MAC-19 - Pal-Mac maintained their undefeated season with their win over visiting Marcus Whitman today. Eight different players scored goals for Pal-Mac including Senior goalie Peyton Lich who scored his first Varsity goal in the game. Others making the offensive book were Keagan Hoesterey (1g-11a), Reid Diehl (5g), Max Hill (3g-2a), and Jackson Dennie (3g-1a). Junior face off specialist Luke VanGorden recorded 20+/10- = 67% and in the goal Peyton Lich had 15s/7ga = 68% (48 mins). Scoring for Marcus Whitman (1-3) were Sophomore midfielder Tariku Blueye (3g-3a), Senior midfielder Melkamu Blueye (2g), and Senior attackman Teague Gallogly (2g-0a). Pal-Mac will host Newark tomorrow and the Wildcats will play at Geneva on Wednesday.    [ BOX SCORE

CC at GenCHURCHVILLE-CHILI-2 at GENEVA-11 - The Panthers took an early lead and never looked back. Both goalies in the game had some impressive saves as: Geneva Senior goalie Paul Williams recorded 11s/2ga = 85% (48 mins) while Senior goalie Beckham Clancy recorded 13s/11ga = 54% (48 mins) for the Saints. Leading the scoring for Geneva (3-3) were Max Heieck (2g-2a), Jeremy Askin (3a), Ryland Dunham (3g), Jack Dunham (3g), and Dominick Vedora (1g-1a). Jeremy Askin won 12+/3- = 80% at the face off "X". BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME-3 at LEWISTON-PORTER-18 - Sophomore face off midfielder Harold Mellander and Junior Jon Smith scored their first Varsity goals and Senior midfielder Quintin Cummings (1g-2a) added the rest of the scoring for the Blue Devils who will host Brockport on Wednesday. Week In Review - Week 2

EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There twenty-eight games played last week. There are seventy-six out of section games scheduled and 5 have been played. Section V teams have won 4 and lost 1 (80%). There are many undefeated teams at this point.

Looking Back

On Tuesday Sophomore offensiveman Cooper Moore recorded 4g-2a, including the game winner in overtime as Irondequoit won their second game of the season against Hilton today. The other five games were mismatches.

On Wednesday there was just one game played. Canandaigua defeated Fairport by a score of 5-4. In a low-scoring tight contest that had three ties, the Gray Wolves (2-0) had three straight goals in the second and third quarters to come from behind and win with a goal by Braden Gioseffi on a pass from Drew Williamee. 

Wayne at HiltonOn Thursday there were six games played and most were mismatches. The winners were HFL, Marcus Whitman, Schroeder. Victor lost to Rye, Thomas lost to BVille and Penfield lost a close one to West Islip.

On Friday  There were two games played. Brighton lost in a close one to Horseheads as a slow first half left the Bruins down 4-1. The second half went the other way, but Brighton was one goal short. McQuaid beat visiting Loveland (OH).

On Saturday There were eight games played and two were really close ones. Section III teams CNS and Baldwinsville were one goal winners over Irondequoit and Schroeder.

Looking Ahead

Wayne at HiltonThe vacation continues on Monday, with everyone wanting to see the total eclipse. The week then will see forty-six games played from Tuesday to Saturday and there are a lot of good matchups.

There are nine games scheduled for Tuesday including Aquinas at Geneva, Spencerport at Canandaigua, Newark at Haverling and Hilton at HFL.

There are two games set for Wednesday. Pal-Mac is at Livonia-Avon and Haverling is at Aquinas

On Thursday there are fifteen scheduled games, and it will be hard to pick the games to see. Victor is at Canandaigua, Churchill-Chili is at Gates Chili, Fairport is at Irondequoit, HFL is at Penn Yan, Rush-Henrietta is at Schroeder, Bloomfield-Honeoye plays Marcus Whitman at FLCC, and Penfield is at Thomas.

On Friday, R-H is at Nichols (VI), McQuaid is also in Section VI, playing St Joseph`s and, in town is Midlakes-Red Jacket is at East United-Eastridge.

Saturday has seventeen games on deck, including Penfield at West Genesee, Niskayuna at Victor, Fairport at Orchard Park, Mynderse at Newark, B-H at Wayne, and Churchville-Chili at Brockport.

Eight Close Games: Victor Over Nisky in OT

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were 16 games played today and 8 were close ones. Baldwinsville defeated Canandaigua 5-4. Wayne was a 12-10 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye and Hilton was a 8-7 winner over Horseheads. Aquinas defeated Canisius by a score of 8-7. Greece Storm defeated Eden by a score of 8-6. Victor was a 10-9 winner over Niskayuna. Penn Yan was a 4-3 winner over Clarence and West Genesee was a 10-8 winner over Penfield. 

Niskayuna at VictorCANANDAIGUA-4 at BALDWINSVILLE-5 - The Bees won their third game from Section V when they defeated Canandaigua today. Earlier in the season they beat Irondequoit (by one goal) and Thomas and in their last six meetings with CA they have a 6-0 record (since 2005). Baldwinsville took an early lead and went into halftime up 4-1. The teams each scored one goal in the third and the Gray Wolves mounted a comeback with two unanswered goals in the last stanza. Leading the scoring for Wayne were Junior offensiveman Tas Strickland (5g-1a), Senior midfielder PJ Ostrowski (3g-1a), and Senior midfielder Alex Garrow (1g-2a). In the goal for Wayne was junior Logan Phillips with 15s/10ga = 60% (48 mins). Scoring for Bloomfield-Honeoye (2-1) were Senior offensiveman Jonathan Nelson (5g), Senior attackman Liam Roach (1g-2a), and Junior attackman John Blair (1g-1a). Niskayuna at VictorNISKAYUNA-9 at VICTOR-10 in overtime - Senior attackman Christian Besaw scored the overtime game winner for Victor with an assist from Jack Herendeen with 00:02:42 left in overtime. The game was close throughout and saw four ties and although the Silver Warriors held a one goal advantage in each of the first two quarters, the Blue Devils outscored Nisky 3-1 in the second half. Niskayuna led 9-8 with 9:31 left in the game, but Herendeed tied the game with 24 seconds left in regulation. Leading the scoring for Victor (2-2) were Herendeen (2g-4a),Christian Besaw (3g), and Aiden Clinkscales (2g). Facing off for Victor was 8th grader Eli Ricci with 7+/4- = 64%. Leading the scoring for Churchville-Chili (2-2) were senior attackman Colin Duncan (12g-0a), who set a new school record for goals in a game, passing the Buck boys (Aaron in 2014) and Jacob (in 2017) who held the previous record at 8. Also scoring were Cameron Gefell (5a), Dominic Hoch (2g-3a), and Matthew Mitchell (4a). Senior Patrick Hoff scored his first Varsity goal for the Saints. Facing off for Churchville-Chili was senior Cameron Gefell with 4+/1- = 80%, and sophomore Isaac Bailey with 12+/5- = 71%. In the goal for Churchville-Chili was senior Beckham Clancy with 6s/4ga = 60% (48 mins). DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - There were 12 games played today and a whole bunch of close games under wet and rainy conditions. Livonia-Avon, HFL, Penfield and Victor each won their games by one goal.

Penfield vs ThomasPENFIELD-11 at THOMAS-10 - There were six ties in this close game but two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter gave the Patriots the win.
