Who Are They - Answer?

The Wonderful Whipples The four players from Irondequoit are the sons of Joseph Whipple, Jim, Lance, Jay and Rory. (A fifth brother, Shawn, was seven at the time of the picture.)

Jim was a star in both football and lacrosse, and the oldest.

Lance won nine letters at Irondequoit (football, wrestling, lacrosse) and was named to the All UpState team twice. He was named to the All County Football team and won the Sectional wrestling title at 136 pounds. After enlisting in the Army he was awarded a bronze star with Valor for protecting wounded soldiers being transported to medical facilities.

Jay, a High School All-American and long-time Irondequoit Assistant Coach, is also the father of former Irondequoit Head Coach Craig Whipple and current Pittsford Head Coach Andrew Whipple.

Rory, a State Champion wrestler (155 pounds) and also a lacrosse High School All-American, has coached at the college level at a number of schools including Tampa (current), Bryan, Hartwick and Clarkson.

An article by John Czarnecki in the Times Union features story said: "The Four: Jim, Jay, Lance and Rory are what you may call the last of the superjock cult. They are rare, all-every things."
