Canandaigua Comes from Behind Against Hilton

Canandaigua came back in the last quarter in a 11-10 come from behind win against Hilton.  The Braves trailed for the entire contest prior to their final goal with 5:24 left on the clock.  The Cadets, who led by 3 early in the game, could not tie the game for the sixth time in the final minutes.  The scoring for Hilton was spread out with six players scoring a single goal and the leading scorer (Ryan Butts) finished with 2g-2a.  For the Braves, Mark Belles led with 4g-1a.  Face-off midfielder Shawn Doran finished 18/25 for Hilton, with a team leading 11 ground balls.

Hilton came out of the gate strong and scored four of the first five goals.  The Cadet’s Ryan Butts, scored two of the opening goals.  Belles scored the opener for the Braves.  At the end of the first quarter, Hilton led 4-1 (their largest lead of the game).  Over the second half, Canandaigua fought back to within one with slow streaks.  Mitch Pfeiffer and Tyler Goode scored the opening goals of the second quarter to bring the game to 4-3.  Hilton responded with two of their own to take back the three goal lead.  However, Canandaigua finished out the half with another pair.  Hilton still led (6-5) going into the half.

In the third quarter, Canandaigua tied the contest for the second time at 6-6.  Belles scored his 3rd goal of the night with 10:02 left in the third quarter.  Once again, as Canandaigua pulled closer, Hilton pulled ahead.  Zach Boyatzies and Justin Mosher scored for the Cadets and they were back up by two.  The Braves response was a little slower coming, but they scored another pair over a six minute stretch to tie the game for the 3rd time at 808.  The final goal of the quarter was scored by Doran with 2:26 left on the clock.

In the final quarter, Canandaigua outscored Hilton 3-1.  Goode scored to open the quarter and tie the game at nine.  The final Hilton goal was scored by Hacker with 7:42 left.  Two minutes later and Belles scored the final tying goal off a feed from Pfeiffer.  The game winning goal was a face-off fast-break scored by Matt Vierhille only 0:09 later.  The Braves held off any late press by Hilton and secured the one goal victory.  Their third one goal victory of the season.  The Braves have two games left in the regular season (Schroeder and Penfield) and the Cadets have three (R-H, Irondequoit, Williamsville East).
